Higson Plate Final 2008. By Alan Tranter
|
Overall
we found that there were an enormous percentage of flat boards, particularly in the
second half where 16 out of 21 had a swing of 0 or 1 imp. Our success
was therefore built on the first session and in particular our match
against the runners up, Bear Clubbers, which we were fortunate enough
to succeed by 17-3.
The 4ª bid promised a ¨ suit but South elected
to bid 5© 1- down
1 on the ªA lead.
In the other
room E-W were playing Precision-§. 5¨ made 11
tricks for a 10 IMP gain. |
Lead was ª6 won in dummy with the
ª10. I then
led a §2 to the
§K and §A. N played a second
ª to the
ªA. The §10 revealed the bad break.
However the fact that South had the singleton
§9 meant that the §8 now yielded
a trick and with the added bonus of a © discard
it resulted in 10 tricks. (Why did
North not manage to clear the ª stops and come to 3 § and 2 ª tricks?) In
the other room they finished in 4© which failed
by one. Gain of 11 IMP. |
