England Juniors win
International Event in Israel
Four players
from the England Under -25 squad were sent as a representative team
by the English Bridge Union to play in the 9th International Red Sea Bridge
Festival in Eilat, Israel. Nearly 80 teams took part in the main teams
event including some of Israel's strongest players. The English team
of Ben Green, Duncan Happer (from the Midlands) and Manchester's Alex Morris
and Edward Levy won the main event, winning all their matches. This
is the second major triumph for these players as in August, together with
Andy Woodcock and Michael Byrne, they won the Manchester Bridge Club 25th
Anniversary Invitation Teams in a very strong field including the Hacketts
and the English Ladies.
Michael Byrne was to have played in Israel,
but due to the loss of his passport at the last minute he was
unable to travel. Fortunately Ed Levy was available to
substitute and he duly caught the next available plane to join
the team!
