The
Philharmonic Choir of Manchester was first formed as a mixed choir in
1985 from members of the Friends of the BBC Philharmonic
Orchestra. Since then the choir has presented concerts regularly
throughout the North West to support various charities and members have
participated in Le Festival de Musique et des Arts de La Tour in the
south of France.
The Choir has taken part in joint concerts with Sale and Oldham Choral
Societies
and in events organised by the National Federation of Music
Societies, with whom it is affiliated.
The Choir has performed Elgar’s Dream of Gerontius, Rossini’s Petite
Messe Solenelle, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Faure’s Requiem, Vivaldi’s
Gloria, Mozart’s Requiem, Mass in C Minor and Solemn Vespers, Haydn’s
Creation and Bach’s Christmas Oratorio.
Enjoy a good sing? Then why not join us?
We do not, as part of our ethos, audition and it does not really matter
if you
have little or no experience of singing. What is important, is
that you want to sing and are prepared to give commitment to choral
singing.
As with many choirs we need more male members to achieve a better
balance between the sections, but all voices are welcome.
Come to expand your experience and knowledge of live music.
We are a choir committed to the
joy
of live music making.
The Choir
meets at 7.30 on Tuesday nights at St Paul's Church Withington
