Douglas Butters - Musical Director 2001 - 2005



Douglas Butters




Douglas was with the choir from 1990 to March 2005 before returning to Scotland.  Born in Scotland, Douglas started his musical career as a chorister at St Mary’s Cathedral, Edinburgh, where he was awarded a scholarship to study at St Mary’s Music School.  He was then awarded an Open Music Scholarship to Glenalmond College, Perthshire, where he was given the opportunity to accompany other musicians and also to conduct the school choir.  He came to Manchester straight from school in 1986 to study at RNCM and has since worked as accompanist with Oldham Choral Society, North West Opera, Le Festival International de Musique et des Arts de La Tour de France, and with various singers and cabaret groups. Douglas has also worked with Huddersfield Choral Society, Liverpool Philharmonic Society and The Welsh Choral Union. Having previously held the post of Chorus Master, Douglas became the choir’s Musical Director in 2001.

Angela Brzezinka  

Angela Brzezinka - Accompanist Jan 2005 to December 2007


Angela Brzezinka joined the Manchester Philharmonic Choir as their accompanist in January 2005.  After graduating from the University of Leeds in 2004 with a first class honours degree in music, Angela was awarded an Allcart Award by the Worshipful Company of Musicians for piano accompaniment.  She was also awarded a full scholarship by the Royal Northern College of Music, where she began studies for a postgraduate diploma in piano accompaniment in September 2004.  Angela also enjoys working as a repetiteur and has recently worked on the RNCM opera productions.  This year, Angela will also be working as a repetiteur and workshop leader for schools’ educational projects for the production of Michael Babb's opera Avalon in South Yorkshire venues.  Angela is a piano teacher in Withington.  To visit her teaching website please go to www.abpianoschool.co.uk.
